Food for 7/28

Another day, another...well day of food I suppose.

Breakfast:
- SlimFast Cappucino Delight, 180 cal.

Snack:
- Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola bar, 100 cal.

Lunch:
- PB & J
- Yoplait Light in Blackberry, 100 cal.
- Cantelope

Water Intake:
- 2.2 L of water thus far, more to come!

Dinner:
- Lays Chips & Ranch
- Wendy's Vanilla Frosty

No, it wasn't a good day, at least once I got to dinnertime. What was supposed to be dinner got pushed aside because my mother didn't feel like cooking. I don't blame her, cooking every evening gets boring, especially when we don't use any new receipes or anything like that. Maybe I should rectify this situation, or start cooking on my own!

I'm craving a salad like it's going out of style.

A fairly better start to today, and hopefully it'll continue to go well. All I know is that it gets serious when the 3 p.m. snack monster finds me.

Maybe I'll workout tonight. Maybe just even walk. Gotta do something! So long as the app & I are getting along, then all will be well. This time I plan on focusing on strength!

I ended up not walking, or doing anything besides going into the pool and doing some volleyball which had the muscles in my arms burning.

Food for 7/27

I've decided I'm going to start writing down what I eat every day. Instead of wasting notebook paper, I'll just put it here.

Breakfast:
- Slimfast Cappucino Delight, 180 calories

Misc.
- 2.1 L of water
- 2 mini tootsie rolls
- Quaker Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bar, 100 calories
- Gardetto's Chipotle flavored mix, 200 calories

Lunch:
- Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwhich
- Fritos, individual serving, 160 calories
- Yoplait Light Yogurt, Harvest Peach, 100 calories
- Cars fruit flavored snacks, 80 calories
- Strawberries with some sugar on them

Dinner:
- BLT w/ buttered toast & then mayo
- strawberries
- cantelope

Then, everything went downhill after dinner. I started snacking out of boredom. I ate what is my latest facination: dipping Lay's potato chips into Ranch dressing, like a ton of chips and dressing. Then, I had a little bag of Mini-Muffins, chocolate chip.

I didn't work out, the training app and I weren't getting along.

So, I fell off the wagon a little bit there after dinner, but I'm going to try even harder to not snack when I'm bored, or if I'm hungry, to grab a healthy alternative.

My Wonderful Saturday

Since I really didn't do anything of note today, I do have to tell you about my wonderful Saturday yesterday.

Living in Virginia, it gets really hot and humid during the summer. Truth be told, we weren't really experiencing it until yesterday.

So, yesterday I decided to do the Noland Trail that's run by the Mariner's Museum. It's a 5 mile trail with hills and sand, so it really works out your body. Well, I did all 5, and I was sweating like a pig by the end of it. It took me only 2 hours, which is pretty good considering I walked the entire thing. The only thing I necessarily messed up on was not bringing enough water with me. I emptied my bottle by the time I got to my car and didn't drink enough when I got home. I definitely had the headache from hell because of my lack of water.

Switching gears here, I ordered my Exam Crackers MCAT Complete Study Guide on July 19th, and the expected delivery in the e-mail said July 24, and then on Amazon.com when I went to track my package, said July 25. Well I went to go track my delivery and nothing's been updated since being shipped from the warehouse in Kentucky. It's still not here, and I'm a little agitated that I can't properly check my order like I want to. Hopefully the books will arrive sometime this week. I'm ready to get cracking and studying after work for a couple of hours every night.

I'm apparently a glutton for punishment though because last night I went on there and ordered EA Sports Active for the Wii, as another way of doing exercises, better exercises than the Wii Fit. We shall see though.

The New Workout Plan

After I graduated, I lost gym priviledges not only to VCU because I'm no longer a student, but also to the gyms on the military bases near my house. With $20,000 coming my way in 6 months to start being paid off, buying a membership to the overly crowded YMCA wasn't really an option either.

So, to rectify this problem, I started getting up at 6 a.m. every weekday and walked, jogged, or brought my dog Reagan along to do a mile and a half or 2 miles. This is great and dandy, but I like feeling like I've really worked out, you know really broke out a sweat. That's when I feel the most accomplished.

Well, I discovered this app for the iPhone or iPod touch called the NikeWomen's Training Club. You create an avatar (mine looks nothing like me), set your goals, and then select a certain area you want to focus on. I chose cardio for the moment but there are other options like strength, and balance. You can also chose the type of level you want to work out at. Casual gives you 2 times a week, Committed gives you 3, and Intense gives you 4. I started with committed because I was going to committ to it.

Truth be told, I forgot about the app until this past Wednesday. I went looking for my Tae Bo tapes, yes tapes, but couldn't find them. So I went and re-disovered this app. It gives you video of what you're supposed to do, and then it gives you a timer so you know exactly how much time you've got left. It gave me a 20 minute workout, and I could already feel soreness from it that night.

Well, I did it again, last night, but the nice thing is, is that it switches up the workout so it's not the exact same as the one you did a a day or so ago. I did some of the exercises outside on my deck because there was more room, and the movement, along with the humidity had me pouring sweat.

Of course, it's not just working out that gets you in shape and living a healthier lifestyle, it's the food you eat as well. I use another app for that called Lose it! It had food in there so you can record what you eat, it also lets you create a goal for yourself and will calculate your caloric intake per day. A nice perk is that it has a lot of fast food and restaurants in its database, so you can still record what you eat, even if you are dining out.

The best part about both of these apps I've mentioned is that they're FREE!

It's not easy for me to admit or be ok with weighing 202 pounds at this moment. There are times where I feel super fat, and others where I think I'm ok with the way I look. However, I realize that now is the time to focus on getting healthy since I don't have to worry about school in the fall taking up my time, and since I don't work in the evenings because of my current 8-5 job, there's no excuse for me not to.

Until next time.

This is going to be a blog where I can sit and talk about my fitness goals, career goals, and whatever else may peak my interest that I'm determined to achieve.

Stay tuned, it might actually get interesting.
